"Y" shaped route

The Metro network project has two main lines:

The metropolitan area of Bilbao has developed in a linear layout, with the towns of Basauri and Etxebarri as the upper end, a large central body comprising the city of Bilbao, and two long areas that extend along both banks of the river.
This way, the final route of the underground has the graphic representation of a "Y" that, with Basauri as the lower end, runs through Etxebarri, Bolueta, Santutxu, Casco Viejo, Arenal, Gran Via, Indautxu, San Mames, Olabeaga, Deusto, Sarriko and San Inazio, with a total of 10.5 kilometres. It's here where the division of the arms of the "Y" takes place.

The right arm goes along the same route as the previous railway on the right bank, until its end at Plentzia.

The left arm serves the towns on the left bank and passes, underground, through the centre of the main population centres.
