October. "Txikitero de Honor" ("Honorary Wine-drinker")
The "Txikiteroenartean" or organising committee of the Fiesta de los Txikiteros/ Txikiteroen Festa Wine-drinkers' Festival, whose members are the Old Town branch of the Athletic Bilbao Supporters' Club, the tourist promotion agency Bilbao Iniciativas Turísticas, the Bakers' Guild of Bizkaia, the Bilbotarrak choir, the Gargantua Company, the flute band Bilboko Txistulariak and the traders' associations of the Old Town and the La Ribera market, has awarded Metro Bilbao its "Honorary Wine-drinker" award for its services to society in general and in particular for the number of lives that it has probably saved by providing all-night services and thus reducing potential road traffic accidents.
March. In line with the objective of promoting equal opportunities for men and women, on March 8th Metro Bilbao formally joined a select group of companies engaged in equality plans. Coinciding with this new project the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, as the organisation responsible for the Parekatuz network, awarded Metro Bilbao its Certificate of Commitment to Progress towards Gender Equality
March.www.metrobilbao.com obtains the award to the best Basque Website in the Company´s section in the V Prizes of El Correo Digital. Mikel Urizarbarrena, president of Panda Software handed over the award to Rafael Sarria, General Manager of Metro Bilbao in the show celebrated in the Guggenheim Museum.

November.European Certificate of Ethical
& Socially Responsible Management
Metro Bilbao was awarded this certificate by IAC, making it the first transportation
company in Spain to attain a European certificate as a socially responsible
organisation as promoted by Forética.
October. "EMAS Awards".
EU awards Metro Bilbao second place in EMAS 2006 European awards
The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) awards go to those European firms
with the highest levels of commitment and transparency in the area of sustainable
development. Metro Bilbao was nominated by the Environment Ministry. It
is the first firm in the railway sector to achieve this distinction in the
“Large Companies” category.
"Award for commitment to excellence"
Diploma for commitment to excellence in management
Mikel Ugalde, General Manager of Euskalit, the Basque Foundation for Quality,
handed over the award to Josu Sagastagoitia, General Manager of Metro Bilbao,
at the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The diploma is awarded to Basque organisations
that use the EFQM excellence model as a framework for improving management,
and have undertaken to move towards total quality. Euskalit describes the
model as enabling organisations to be more efficient and obliging them to
innovate and achieve more satisfactory results for their employees and customers
alike.

GIMM Award to the Company.
GIMM Award to the Company grants to Metro Bilbao becouse of the complete
accessibility of the metro, where the stations, the crossing sites, the
trains and all the other facilities were designed and constructed from the
beginning without architectonic barriers, with short and safe accesses for
the all clients, making easy the complete integration of the people with
great problems of mobility.

The Website of Metro Bilbao was selected to participate in the Laus 05 Awards
in the corporative Website section. The Website was shown at the exhibition
of the contest from May 11th to June 2nd at the Exhibition Hall of the FAD
of Barcelona.

May. Comeravasa Award. On 27th May on the
occasion of COPE's seventh Comeravasa Awards, Metro Bilbao received the
prize for the best institutional idea for the recent opening of line 2.
July. ISO 14001 Certification on Environment.
On 1st July AENOR granted Metro Bilbao the ISO 14001 certification on Environment,
the first company in the railway industry to receive acknowledgement of
their commitment to the environment in the Country.

May. Prizes for Information Technology in
the Basque Country, consisting of a second prize to Metro Bilbao for its
"Breakdown Work-flow" computer application.
October. National Work Safety Trophy (DIPLOOS
- 31st Prize Ceremony, 1999 edition): Honorific Mention to Metro Bilbao
by the Accident Prevention Association.
November. Recognition as a Body Working for
Equal Opportunities for Women and Men by Emakunde Emakumearen Euskal Erakundea,
the Basque Women's Association.
November. The manufacturer of the metro benches
(Akaba, based in Irún), was awarded the National Industrial Design
Award by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology.
December. Accessibility Prize 2000 (first
edition) awarded by the Federation for Co-ordination of the Physically Disabled
in Bizkaia: 3/12/00.

December. AENOR awards ISO 9002 quality
certification to the Metro Bilbao Customer Service Department.
International Film and Video Festival. Silver Screen Award to the "Underground
Bilbao, Engineering and Architecture" video.

7 October. The Brunel Railway Architecture
Award was presented to the Bilbao Metro overall, and to Sarriko station
in particular.
Harvard University. "Veronica Rudge Green Prize" for city designs,
to Sir Norman Foster for the Metro Bilbao project.
1997
The designer Michael Weiss was awarded a prize from the Spanish Professional
Designers' Association for the metro's furnishings.
December. UNI-2, the metro cleaning contractors,
received a Prize for Excellence from the Spanish Technical Cleaning Institute,
who claim that the Bilbao metro is the cleanest in Europe.
